The Roman Empire was the grandest one to ever grace the Earth. It spanned most of Europe and much of Asia, and its wealth and power eclipsed even the greatest kingdoms and empires since. It spawned much of modern culture, gave us a great amount of technology and was a haven for great art. The Romans also knew how to drink and how to party. When most people think of Rome, though, they immediately think Italy. This is not necessarily the case. The Roman tribe conquered all of the Italic peninsula and much more; much of the modern North African, Arab and Mediterranean world were all Roman territories.

One of the countries to absorb much Roman culture and history was Syria. If you wish to visit the best preserved Roman ruins in Syria, then you will want to head to Palmyra, Syria. Palmyra is a beautiful city with much culture, heritage and history to offer the tourist.
